Wine Preservation Educational Programs from Wine Shield

Learning about wine oxidation is key to better wine enjoyment and profit.

Ask any number of wine enthusiasts, and you’re bound to get a variety of answers — and even some baffled looks — when the subject of wine oxidation is discussed.

That’s because outside the more involved spheres of wine drinkers, most are unaware of the fact that an opened bottle is in a race against time for preservation of quality.

The fact is, the average wine enthusiast may only have a passing knowledge of wine preservation — usually in the form of some ineffective stoppers to re-seal an opened bottle. Worse, they may not really understand the impact of oxidation on wine’s taste, and may interpret the change in flavor and nose with the wine producer’s quality, rather than the simple fact that oxygenation destroys wine.

That’s why Wine Shield is crafting a comprehensive educational program to serve the trade on the subject of wine oxidation and preservation.

It’s our belief that the more people understand the impact of oxygen on opened wine, the more likely they are to opt for the effective preservation of Wine Shield — driving demand from not only the public (who will expect better tasting wine in their restaurant and bar experiences) but also from the trade (who can promote the enhanced preservation techniques employed for a better taste from each glass).

Animated Strategy: Wine Crusader: Hero to Wines Everywhere

 

 

Wine Shield has created an animated character, Wine Crusader, to graphically illustrate the “battle” between opened wine and oxygenation. The character valiantly battles the onslaught of oxygen “bubbles” from the ramparts of his castle, but only triumphs once he is armed with his Wine Shield (and accompanying spear).

Additionally, Wine Shield is preparing online training materials for use by bar and restaurant personnel – not only to help understand the wine-oxygen issue but many other elements of on-sale by-the-glass wine sales. Look for this program to roll out later in 2011.
